No one hurt in 11-vehicle crash that closed westbound 401 in London

Provincial police have confirmed 11 vehicles, including transport trucks, were involved in a serious crash on Highway 401 in London on Sunday.

The vehicles collided in the westbound lanes between Veterans Memorial Parkway and Highbury Avenue around 11:45 a.m.

One of the jackknifed tractor-trailers ended up leaking fuel across the lanes of the busy highway. The London Fire Department tweeted that the spill was "significant" and that the Ministry of Environment had been notified.

Despite the number of vehicles involved in the collision, no one was hurt, Middlesex OPP said.

The crash happened as the region was receiving heavy snowfall which temporarily reduced visibility and made roads incredibly slick.

The westbound lanes were fully reopened shortly after 3 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
