Zellers coming to White Oaks Mall

Zellers is returning to London.

The Canadian discount department retail chain is being rebooted with an initial 25 brick-and-mortar stores set to open across the country this spring, including one inside the Hudson's Bay at White Oaks Mall.

"Customers will be greeted with a thoughtful selection of design-led products across home decor, toys, baby, apparel, and pets, housed within Zellers’ signature red and white that will guide customers along in their retail journey," the retailer said in a statement issued Wednesday.

The London store will be one of only nine in Ontario. Cambridge, Burlington, Mississauga, Kingston, Ottawa, Scarborough, and St. Catharines will also be getting Zellers "store experiences."

Each store within the Bay will range between 8,000 to 10,000 square feet, depending on location.

"Customers can expect a helpful, playful shopping experience packed full of low prices day in, day out," Zellers said.

Hudson's Bay Company, which bought the brand in the 70s, also plans to launch Zellers' first-ever fully integrated e-commerce platform at Zellers.ca. Shoppers who want to "stay in the loop" can sign up for updates online.

At its height, there were 350 Zellers stores in Canada. They were all shuttered by 2013.

The return of the old discount store aims to cash in on Canadians' nostalgia toward the brand.
