Woman who crashed with child in car was impaired: London police

A charge of impaired driving has been laid against a London woman who police say had a child in the vehicle when she crashed on New Year's Day.

London police received multiple 911 calls about the crash on Fairhaven Circle near Fairhaven Street, southeast of the intersection of Highbury Avenue and Trafalgar Street, around 7:45 a.m. on Sunday.

Witnesses told police that a woman and a young child ran from the vehicle after it hit a tree. Officers found the pair a short distance away from the crash.

No injuries were reported, but damage is estimated at $10,000.

A 37-year-old London woman has been charged with impaired driving and failure to comply with a demand made by a peace officer. Her name is not being released as it could identify the child, police said.

The woman is scheduled to appear in London court in relation to the charges on February 15.
