London's New Year's baby wasted little time making her way into the world Sunday morning.
A baby girl was born at 12:01 a.m. on New Year's Day at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC). The parents, Jennifer and Michael, gave her the name Evelyn Stewart. The baby was born weighing 6 pounds.
Baby Evelyn and her mother are doing well, according to the hospital. The pharmacist-owners of London and area Shoppers Drug Mart stores put together a gift basket for the new mother and her daughter. Children’s Health Foundation also gave them a hand-knit baby blanket, a Dr. Beary Good stuffed animal, a fleece blanket, and baby onesie.
Hospital staff delivered several New Year's Day babies on January 1, 2023, with six girls and four boys born before 2:30 p.m.
"As we venture into 2023, LHSC is proud to acknowledge the hard work of all staff and physicians across the hospital this past year, including the labour and delivery team," hospital officials said in a media release.
On average, 5,700 newborns are welcomed each year at LHSC.
