Man assaulted, carjacked outside downtown restaurant

A 31-year-old man is facing charges after a violent carjacking in downtown London.

According to London police, a man was waiting outside of a restaurant on King Street near Talbot Street when he was assaulted by another man around 2:40 a.m. on Thursday. The man then got into the victim's vehicle and drove away.

After hitting a street sign in the area of King and Clarence streets, the man ran from the vehicle.

Police arrived on scene and officers with the canine unit arrested a suspect nearby.

A London man has since been charged with robbery from a person with violence, impaired operation of a vehicle, impaired exceeding blood alcohol concentration, and driving while prohibited.

He is scheduled to appear in court in relation to the charges on Thursday.

The victim suffered minor injuries during the encounter, police said.
