London Olympian Damian Warner, Banting House to be honoured during celebration

Londoner and Olympic gold medal champion Damian Warner is set to be honoured during a Hometown Stars celebration at Western University on Monday.

Warner, who was inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2021, is the top ranked decathlete in the world. Last summer he won gold in the decathlon at the Tokyo 2020 Games, finishing with an Olympic record 9,018 points. The London athlete has also won five World Championship medals and has taken home the gold at Commonwealth and Pan-Am Games.

The event will be free to the public and takes place at Western University's Thompson Arena on 1231 Western Road with parking available at the South Valley lot at 11:15 a.m. The celebration will feature special guests, a commemorative plaque unveiling, and a special musical performance.

Following the ceremony for Warner, Hometown Stars will hold another celebration in the evening for the Banting House to honour Canada’s Walk of Fame 2021 inductees Fredrick Banting, Charles Best, James Collip and John Macleod as part of World Diabetes Day. That event starts at 6:15 p.m. at the Banting House on 442 Adelaide Street North.

Canada's Walk of Fame is a not-for-profit organization that works to inspire Canadians by shining a light on extraordinary achievers and their journeys. More than 200 inductees have been introduced in the past 24 years. Hometown Stars launched in 2017,  giving inductees another opportunity to recognize their induction in their hometown.
