London police believe there were multiple people inside a vehicle that hit and killed a cyclist before taking off from the scene last month.
Jibin Benoy, 29, of London, was cycling home from his job at Kluck It, a chicken restaurant on King Street, when he was hit by a blue two-door sedan with a loud exhaust system in the area of Hamilton Road and Little Grey Street around 4:40 a.m. on September 18.
Benoy, who had come to Canada from India to study at Fanshawe College, was rushed to hospital where he later died.
In the days following the hit-and-run, police disclosed more details about the suspect vehicle including that it likely would have significant damage to the front end, hood, and windshield.
On Thursday, police announced publicly that witnesses have told investigators that "multiple people" were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. They added that the sedan may have a broken windshield on the passenger side, along with front bumper and hood damage. A new surveillance photo of the vehicle was also released by police.
Police again renewed their call for anyone who has dash-cam, residential, or business surveillance video from the area between 4:30 a.m. and 4:45 a.m. the day of the collision to call them at 519- 661-5670.
Benoy has been described as "a joy to be around" by his employer. Two separate GoFundMe campaigns were launched to raise funds for the Fanshawe student's funeral and provide financial assistance to his family back in India. The fundraiser by Benoy’s employer raised more than $15,800 before it was closed, while a campaign by the London Malayalee Association is currently at nearly $46,000.
