Ilderton school temporarily closed due to water issue

A lack of running water has forced the temporary closure of an elementary school in Ilderton.

The Thames Valley District School Board announced Monday Valleyview Elementary school on Ilderton Road would not be opening its doors for the day.

"In support of Thames Valley’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all staff and students, due to no running water at Valleyview Elementary School, the school will be closed," the board said in an email that went out just before 8 a.m.

Students will be shifted to online learning for the day. Families are asked to check their child's digital platform for learning activities.

The board said that decisions related to school closures are not made lightly and that the safety of students and staff is a priority.

At this point, the board has not indicated whether the water issue will be resolved in time for the school to reopen on Tuesday.
