Gas leak forces evacuation of homes south of downtown

A number of homes on a residential street south of the downtown had to be evacuated because of a gas leak Thursday.

Crews working on Windsor Crescent, just west of Wellington Road accidentally severed the natural gas line just after 10 a.m.

London firefighters were called to the scene and evacuated nearby homes as a precaution. Fire crews also checked the air quality of neighbouring properties.

No injuries were reported.

Enbridge workers have since shut off the gas and are working to repair the line.

Residents were allowed to return to their homes after about an hour.
