Section of Thames Valley Parkway closed for sewer work

A section of a popular multi-use path by the Thames River will be closed for the next month because of sewer construction.

As of Monday, the Thames Valley Parkway (TVP) between Ann and Grosvenor streets will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists. The closure will allow crews to upgrade underground sewer infrastructure near the path, city officials said in a statement.

There are two detour options to choose from after cyclists voiced safety concerns over the original route proposed by the city.

Signs will direct TVP users across the Thames River using Blackfriars Bridge and the bridge in Gibbons Park to travel along Beaufort Street, Gunn Street, and the multi-use path on the west side of the river. The alternate detour will take cyclists and pedestrians around the closure using Ann Street, Talbot Street, St. James Street, St. George Street, and Grosvenor Street.

The TVP is expected to remain closed until September 30.
