Airshow London has added more world-renowned fighter jets to its drive-in event.
The United States Air Force Thunderbirds will be among the headliners at next month's SkyDrive at the London International Airport, airshow officials announced on Monday.
The U.S. demonstration team will join the previously announced Canadian Forces Snowbirds and CF-18 Hornet demo team over the three day aviation spectacle September 9 to 11. The Thunderbirds' appearance will mark the U.S. Air Force's 75th anniversary.
“As an established premier air show in Canada, we look forward to our 2022 event, providing our fans with an unmatched experience," said Airshow London Director of Operations Gerry Vanderhoek. "We can’t wait to host the United States Air Force Thunderbirds, representing the positive reputation Airshow London is creating within North America. With clear skies ahead for 2022 and beyond, we are extremely proud to showcase our SkyDrive event once again."
The drive-in event, now in its third year, will also include ground displays and an opportunity to meet and chat with the various performance crews.
Each car load of spectators is assigned a 20 by 25-foot parking space to watch the show tailgate style. Spectators are allowed to be outside of their vehicle within that perimeter and the show is broadcast over vehicle radios. This year, there will be a new hop-on hop-off trolley system to transport aviation enthusiasts from their parking site to onsite attractions.
Tickets for the show have to be purchased in advance at airshowlondon.com.
