A Tillsonburg man who set off on Lake Erie in his boat earlier this week was found dead Friday evening.
According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), 58-year-old Jack Glaves was located in the water just before 7 p.m.
Police say Glaves was found about seven miles (11 kilometres) south of Port Bruce, which is approximately 22 kilometres west of Port Burwell, where he departed from on Tuesday afternoon.
"We would just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone, especially our emergency service partners, community residents, and the boating community for all of their assistance and to everyone that provided information surrounding this incident," said OPP Acting Sergeant Ed Sanchuk in a video posted to Twitter.
Glaves was reported missing to police at around 11:30 p.m. August 9 as he was expected to return to shore before sundown. He departed from the marina at 2 p.m in a boat described as a white, 21-foot striper with a black canopy.
On Thursday morning, a resident in Madison Township, Ohio located a boat on the shoreline. The United States Coast Guard arrived however, no one was found on board. The OPP was later notified and it was determined the boat belonged to Glaves.
