Veltman trial won't be held in London

The man accused of killing four members of the Afzaal family with his truck and injuring one other will not be tried for the crime in London.

Superior Court Justice Renee Pomerance informed the crown and Nathaniel Veltman's lawyer of the decision on Monday. However, the reasoning for the change and the arguments for and against it are under a publication ban.

Veltman faces four counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. Investigators and prosecutors have called his alleged actions an act of terrorism.

Salman Afzaal, 46, his wife Madiha Salman, 44, their 15-year-old daughter Yumna Afzaal and 9-year-old son Fayez Salman, and Salman Afzaal’s 74-year-old mother Talat Afzaal were out for an evening walk on June 6 of 2021, when a pickup truck mounted the curb at Hyde Park and South Carriage roads and hit them before speeding off.

Fayez Salman was the lone survivor of the attack.

More pre-trial motions will be heard next month.

Veltman's trial is scheduled for September of 2023.
