A man who reportedly caused a confrontation at a Pride celebration in Wortley Village has been publicly identified by police.
The incident went down Saturday afternoon near Wortley Road and Elmwood Avenue, according to London police. Officers responded to the area after they received reports about a man causing a disturbance. The man was later arrested and charged by police without incident.
On Tuesday, police announced the accused as 37-year-old Richard Sillers of London, has been charged with causing a disturbance and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.
Police have not specified exactly what the man was doing when he disrupted the event. However, those at the event have claimed the man arrived at the event in a white pick-up truck and started incessantly honking his horn while driving up and down a nearby street.
Police Chief Steve Williams later commented on the altercation, condemning the man's behaviour. He also assured Londoners that there will be an increased police presence at the Pride Parade downtown this Sunday.
Sillers has since been released from police custody and is due to appear in court on August 25.
