It was such a big windfall, even Shane Couchman's wife didn't believe him when he said he had won.
The 47-year-old London sheet metal worker claimed a Maxmillion $1 million dollar prize in the June 3 Lotto Max draw.
"I was so shocked I didn't know how to feel – I wasn't sure if all the zeroes I was seeing was real," Couchman said of his reaction to seeing the big win come up on the store ticket scanner. "My wife was shocked – she didn't believe me at first."
So far, Couchman has two ideas on how to spend the money - invest some and go on a vacation.
"It feels great," he said while picking up his winnings at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto.
OLG also announced on Wednesday that a group of nine people from Middlesex County won the second prize in the January 1 Lotto 6/49 draw.
Lisa Franssen, Cheryl Oliver, Dana Beaton, Dorothy Murphy, Gary Purser, James Page, Karla Krekewich-Lafayette, Marilyn McQueen, all of Mount Brydges, and George Painter of Komoka will be sharing $61,979.40
That works out to $6,886.60 each.
