COVID-19 hospitalizations decline

After reporting an increase on Friday in the number of patients with COVID-19, the London Health Sciences Centre reported a statistically significant drop on Monday.

The hospital reported Monday that it has 33 patients with the virus, down from 40 on Friday. That represents a drop of 17.5 per cent over the weekend. The hospital said that, of the 33 patients, 13 are in hospital because of COVID-19 and the rest are there for other reasons but have tested positive. Five or fewer are in intensive care.

Ontario reported Monday that there are 611 people with COVID-19 in the province's hospitals. Of those, 147 are in intensive care. One week ago, there were 879 patients with COVID-19 in hospital, with 152 in intensive care.

Of the current patients, provincial data shows about 60 per cent are in hospital for reasons other than COVID-19, but have tested positive.
