London police have laid charges against a man accused of stealing a vehicle in the city's east end early Tuesday morning.
At around 1:05 a.m., officers were called to an area on Pine Street east of Egerton Street for a report of two suspects allegedly attempting to steal a truck. Witnesses told police the pair took off in the vehicle that was determined to be reported stolen from an address on Third Street on Monday.
Approximately 10 minutes later, police located the stolen vehicle on Hamilton Road and a tire deflation device was used to try and stop the truck. Shortly after, the vehicle was found abandoned near the area of Marconi Gate just north of Gore Road. With assistance of the London Police Service Canine Unit, a suspect was located and arrested nearby. A second suspect was not located.
During a search of the man, an unspecified amount of illegal drugs was seized. As a result, a 30-year-old London man faces several drug, mischief and theft charges including possession of property over $5,000 obtained by crime, possession of a schedule three substance, public mischief, adult possession over 30 grams in public place and theft of a vehicle.
The man was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
