Three men charged in violent jewellery store robbery

Three men have been charged in a brazen armed jewellery store robbery in London last month that left one employee hurt.

Suspects armed with guns went into the store at Oxford Street and Wharncliffe Road North around 5:40 p.m. on March 25 and demanded property. Several customers were inside the business at the time and one staff member was hit with a firearm before the thieves took off in a waiting vehicle.

The employee was treated for minor injuries.

The getaway vehicle was later found abandoned outside the city, police said.

On Tuesday, police announced a 19-year-old Toronto man, a 20-year-old Welland man, and a 23-year-old Hamilton man have been charged in connection with the robbery. They are charged by way of warrant with armed robbery using a firearm, disguise with intent, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

The 19-year-old is additionally charged with assault with a weapon and unauthorized possession of a firearm. The 20-year-old also faces a charge of unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm.

The trio was originally arrested in relation with a robbery in the Peel Region on March 31 and remain in police custody.
