One person has been displaced by a house fire in east London.
A neighbour spotted smoking coming from the home at 8 Rosewood Ave., north of Trafalgar Street around 11:50 p.m. on Thursday and called 911.
When firefighters arrived on scene flames and heavy smoke were coming from the house, which has been converted into two apartments. It is believed the blaze started in the basement.
"We performed an aggressive fire attack to the basement area to knock down the fire... It took a while for our operations to put the fire completely out," said Platoon Chief Gary Mosburger.
A tenant of the home escaped without injury. The Red Cross was brought in to find temporary shelter for that individual.
An early estimate pegs the damage at more than $100,000.
"At this point it is too early to determine the cause of the fire, but there is significant evidence that we are working through and there is significant interest from the agencies who are working collaboratively to come to a conclusion on what started this fire," said Mosburger.
Fire investigators will be back on scene Friday to continue to work to determine the cause of the fire. The Ontario Fire Marshal has been notified.
