$16K worth of exotic birds stolen in North Middlesex

An unusual theft in North Middlesex has left provincial police searching for multiple exotic birds.

OPP began investigating after someone snatched the birds from a property on Egremont Drive early Tuesday morning.

The missing birds are valued at approximately $16,000.

Police have not disclosed how many birds were taken or what kinds of birds they were.

Last fall, a red Eclectus Parrot, a lime green Eclectus Parrot, and two Umbrella Cockatoos were among the exotic animals stolen during three separate break-ins at the Greenview Aviaries Park and Zoo in Morpeth. Bolt cutters were used to free the birds from their cages. They have yet to be found.

Middlesex OPP said it is too early to say whether the two thefts are connected.
