South London crash leaves one person dead, another critical

One person is dead and another is in critical condition after a serious two-vehicle crash in south London late Thursday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called after the vehicles collided in the area of Southdale Road East and Nixon Avenue.

A 36-year-old woman behind the wheel of one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle, a 22-year-old man, had to be cut from the wreckage by firefighters. He was taken to hospital where he remains in critical condition, London police said on Friday morning.

The name of the deceased woman is not being released at the request of her family.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
