While no records were broken this year, the London Food Bank will still have plenty of food donations to go around this Christmas.
The annual Business Cares Food Drive raised over 588,000 lbs worth of food throughout its 2021 campaign. All donations support the London Food Bank and over 30 other programs and organizations.
Campaign Chair Wayne Dunn said though the numbers are down just slightly this year, the total represents some of the campaign's greatest success ever.
"For the second consecutive year, we've approached this campaign not knowing what the end result would be. But in spite of another year of COVID-related challenges, Londoners came through," Dunn said in a statement. "This is truly a celebration of our community and the resolve Londoners have to support those who need it most."
This year's numbers are down by just over one per cent compared to the record-breaking 597,123 lbs brought in during the 2020 campaign.
Jane Roy, the London Food Bank's co-director said she's thrilled with any donations they received and said that as times are getting tougher, more people are using services offered by the food bank.
"Results like what we saw from this year’s campaign are just a reflection of how strong and supportive our community is," Roy said in a release. "We're truly honoured by the support and Londoners' donations are going to have a huge impact on so many people’s lives."
