Vehicle hits backhoe, killing one near Glencoe

A crash involving a vehicle and a parked backhoe has left one person dead northwest of Glencoe.

Emergency crews were called to the collision on Dundonald Road near CPR Drive just before 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Middlesex OPP have determined that a vehicle collided with the unoccupied equipment while passing by a construction site.

"The vehicle subsequently caught fire and the occupant of the car was pronounced deceased on scene," police said.

The name and age of the deceased is not being released until family are notified.

The OPP west region traffic incident management and enforcement team are investigating the cause of the crash. Dundonald Road between Falconbridge Drive and CPR Drive is closed and isn't expected to reopen until late Tuesday afternoon. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
