Officials with the Thames Valley District School Board have made the choice to close another one of its schools due to Omicron variant concerns.
On Monday evening, the school board announced Caradoc Public School in Mount Brydges will switch over to virtual learning on Tuesday for the remainder of the week until students head into a two-week long winter break Friday afternoon. Classes are expected to resume in-person learning again when students return from the holidays on January 3, 2022.
"Board administration has determined that the numerous close contacts from a confirmed case of COVID-19 with potential links to the Omicron variant, has proven to present operational challenges requiring the school to shift to virtual learning," read a statement by the TVDSB.
The school board said classroom teachers will follow up with families with additional information for independent and virtual learning. Parents and guardians requiring technology to support their child's access to remote learning are asked to contact their school.
Caradoc P.S. is the fourth London-area school to close in less than a week out of precaution due to the potential rapid spread the Omicron variant could pose.
Last Thursday, Princess Elizabeth P.S. announced it would also close until the new year, and on Sunday, Westmount P.S. and St. Andre Bressette Secondary School in the London District Catholic School Board also opted to close.
