Fire officials are reminding Londoners about the importance of staying on task while cooking after an apartment fire in the north-end.
Firefighters were called to the apartment complex on Oakville Avenue around 7 p.m. Thursday. They were able to quickly extinguish the flames and ventilate the smoke out of the unit.
A photo from the scene posted to the fire department's social media shows a blackened pot sitting on top of a melted stove with fire damage extending up to the ceiling.
No injuries were reported.
Damage is estimated at $10,000.
Platoon Chief Kirk Loveland noted fires like this one can break out in mere moments.
"When you're cooking you have to be there, you can't multitask like we like to. Doing so can endanger not only yourself but other occupants in the building," said Loveland. "So our first line of defence is being attentive to what you're doing. Make sure you're paying attention to your cooking because it only takes a moment for these combustibles to flash and turn to tragedy."
