Londoners who recently rode the Megabus to Toronto and Niagara Falls may have been exposed to COVID-19.
The Middlesex London Health Unit said Wednesday a passenger who rode the commuter bus from London to Toronto on Sunday afternoon has tested positive for the virus. That same individual took the bus again Monday afternoon, this time from Toronto to Niagara Falls.
As a result, health officials are asking anyone who was on those buses to monitor for symptoms and get tested if symptoms develop.
“There is a risk that anyone who sat within two metres or had close contact with this individual on the bus, may have been exposed to COVID-19," Dr. Alex Summers, the health unit's acting medical officer of health, said in a statement. "Because we don’t have a roster or a seating list of people who travelled with this individual, it will be very important that anyone who was a rider on these routes who develops symptoms, gets tested right away."
Health unit staff have followed up with the infected passenger in an effort to retrace that person's steps leading up to their diagnosis and to identify close contacts who may require guidance.
The affected Megabus routes are as follows:
• Sunday, November 28th, 2021: Departing London, Ontario at 1:10 p.m. from Flying J Megabus stop, 3700 Highbury Avenue South, arriving in Toronto at 4 p.m. to Union Station bus terminal at the North-East corner of Bay Street and Lakeshore Boulevard.
• Monday, November 29th, 2021: Departing Toronto, Ontario at 12:30 p.m. from Toronto Bus Terminal, 610 Bay Street, arriving in Niagara Falls at 2:30 p.m. to Niagara Falls Bus Terminal, located at 4555 Erie Avenue, Niagara Falls, Ontario.
The bus also made stops in Grimsby and St. Catharines, the health unit noted.
“We continue to recommend that anyone who develops COVID-19 symptoms seek testing and that they stay home and away from others, until they receive their test results," said Summers.
