Five new COVID-19 cases reported at London-area public schools

The number of new confirmed or likely cases of COVID-19 within Thames Valley district schools continues to rise.

Late Thursday evening, the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) reported five new cases at three schools which include Byron Somerset Public School in London, Lord Dorchester Secondary School in Dorchester and Wilberforce Public School in Lucan which recorded three new cases for a total of five active cases.

The Middlesex London Health Unit continues to investigate the cases and will follow up as needed with those needing to follow specific testing advice.

"If you do not receive a letter from Thames Valley indicating the public health unit has identified your child as a close contact, your child is not considered to be at risk," the school board said in a statement. "Only those staff and students who have been identified as a close contact will be notified and advised to stay home from school and quarantine for a period of 10 days."

As of Thursday morning, there were 26 active COVID-19 cases within 17 London-area schools. A full list of active cases can be found on the TVDSB COVID-19 alerts web page.
