A young woman has been identified by police as the driver who died in a head-on collision with a transport truck near Aylmer on Wednesday.
The crash happened just before 5:30 a.m. Elgin County OPP say. Emergency crews were called to the scene of a two vehicle crash at Imperial Road (Highway 73) south of Lyons Line.
The woman, identified as 18-year-old Mya Klassen of Aylmer, died on the scene. The transport truck driver was not injured and the road was closed for around nine hours while crews and investigators worked on the scene. Officers have since determined the truck was heading north and the motor vehicle was travelling south on Imperial Road when both collided head-on.
Klassen attended Western University with aspirations to help the community upon graduating.
"Her dream was to work with troubled youth. She loved with a full heart," Klassen's obituary read. "She had so many goals and dreams. She was a good friend, and the sweetest person I ever knew," read a condolence message posted to her memorial page.
The West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team continue to investigate the incident.
