13 new COVID-19 cases in London, Middlesex County

Another 13 cases of COVID-19 have been added to the total in London and Middlesex County.

The Middlesex London Health Unit reported 13 new cases and no deaths on Wednesday. That brings the total number of confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic to 14,440. The number of resolved cases climbed to 14,067. According to health unit figures, there are 128 active cases in the community, an increase of four from Tuesday.

The London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) currently has five or fewer inpatients with COVID-19 in its care. Five or fewer of those patients are listed in intensive care and five or fewer are in the care of Children’s Hospital. There are currently five or fewer hospital employees who have tested positive for the virus.

The Thames Valley District school board recorded four more cases of COVID-19 at three schools outside of the city on Wednesday. One case at Huron Park Secondary School and two cases at Springbank Public School both in Woodstock and another at McGregor Public School in Aylmer.

Clara Brenton Public, Covenant Christian School, and St. Nicholas Senior Catholic in London and Our Lady of the Pillar Academy in Strathroy continue to deal with COVID-19 outbreaks. Covenant Christian School has the most active cases of the virus linked to its outbreak with seven confirmed cases. The other three schools have fewer than four active cases. All four schools remain open with only those considered to be close contacts of the infected isolating at home.

In Elgin and Oxford counties, 12 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Wednesday. That brings Southwestern Public Health’s total number of confirmed infections since the start of the pandemic to 4,635. One death was reported, bringing the total in the two counties to 91.

Ontario reported 321 new cases on Wednesday. The province also reported 10 deaths, although one involved a person who died over a month ago.

There is encouraging news in the provincial numbers reported Wednesday. The 7-day average of new cases is now down to 366, and we're getting closer to 85 per cent of all eligible Ontarians having both doses of vaccine. The figure is 84.1 per cent.
