Police search for missing swimmer in Port Burwell

While three swimmers were saved from nearly drowning in Lake Erie, a fourth is still missing near Port Burwell Provincial Park.

The Ontario Provincial Police said on Saturday shortly before 1:49 p.m., two swimmers were in the water when they found themselves in distress. Noticing this, two other swimmers entered the water to help but also ended up being in distress.

A Good Samaritan saw what was happening and threw a life-saving ring into the water, ultimately saving three of the swimmers. The fourth swimmer has not been found.

The OPP Emergency Response Team, the OPP Canine Services, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Trenton, the Auxiliary Coast Guard, and members of the Port Burwell Provincial Park continue to search the waters and shoreline of Lake Erie.

No further information has been provided at this time.
