Americans asked to reconsider travel to Canada

Citing a Level 3 Travel Health Notice from the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. State Department is asking Americans to reconsider travel to Canada.

Level 3 is the second-highest notice the CDC issues for travellers going abroad. "Because of the current situation in Canada, all travellers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants," said the notice.

In Level 4, travellers are cautioned not to travel to a specific country. Switzerland, Azerbaijan, and Estonia are under a "do not travel" advisory, reported Reuters on Monday.

Canada reopened its borders to fully vaccinated Americans three weeks ago, but the U.S. has not reciprocated.

While close to 75 per cent of Canadians aged 12 and up are now fully vaccinated, 61 per cent of Americans are.

Canada reported 2,735 new cases on Monday, with 31,095 active cases nationwide. According to the New York Times, there were 280,403 new cases in the U.S.
