The London Regional Cancer Program inside Victoria Hospital cancelled all clinic appointments on Tuesday after a burst pipe flooded and damaged the facility.
The London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), which operates the program, made the cancellation announcement just after 8 a.m. Later Tuesday afternoon, the hospital provided an update stating parts of the clinic sustained significant water damage.
"It will take some time to assess the full impact of the water damage, but our program teams are working hard to ensure we meet the care needs of our patients," the LHSC said in an updated statement.
The hospital added clinic appointments and treatment will continue and patients are being contacted by their care teams to re-book appointments for a later date.
"We understand that a last-minute appointment cancellation may be frustrating for patients and families," read the initial statement from the LHSC "We thank our community for their support, patience and understanding."
Individuals scheduled to have chemotherapy or radiation Tuesday were advised to come to the hospital as previously planned, unless contacted by officials directly. Going forward, some patients may be re-directed to another part of the hospital where they will receive care.
