The number of active cases of COVID-19 in London and Middlesex County now sits at 70 after five new cases were reported Wednesday.
The Middlesex London Health Unit did not report any deaths, so the local death toll remains at 231.
London and Middlesex County have now seen a total of 12,884 confirmed cases of COVID-19. The number of active cases is down by one from Tuesday.
The London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) currently has six inpatients with COVID-19 in its care, down from seven on Tuesday. Fewer than five of the patients in hospital are in intensive care.
The health unit says a total of 154 cases have been identified as involving the Delta variant. That figure is up from 140 on Tuesday. There have also been 3,381 cases of the Alpha variant, 120 cases of the Gamma variant, and two cases of the Beta strain.
As of Saturday, there have been 679,820 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered in the region, which works out to 81.4 per cent of all area residents aged 12 and older having received at least one dose. The percentage of the local population to receive both doses is currently 69.7.
Of the 307 people who have contracted the virus since June 30 locally, 65.8 per cent were not vaccinated, 23.8 per cent were partially vaccinated, and 7.8 per cent were fully vaccinated. Another 2.6 per cent had the shot but it had not yet begun offering protection. None of the people who died during that six-week period had received a single dose of the vaccine.
Of those who have been hospitalized, 80 per cent were not vaccinated, while 6.67 per cent were partially vaccinated.
In Elgin and Oxford counties, there were seven new cases reported Wednesday. That brings Southwestern Public Health’s total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 4,002. There has not been a COVID-19 related death in the region since July 14, leaving the death toll unchanged at 84. Resolved cases rose to 3,886 with 32 known active cases in the two counties remaining. Roughly 79.7 per cent of area residents aged 12 and older have had one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 67.7 per cent have received both doses.
Ontario’s daily COVID-19 caseload remained above 300 for a sixth straight day.
Public health officials logged 324 new infections on Wednesday.
Ontario’s total case count since the start of the pandemic now stands at 553,449.
There were three additional deaths reported Wednesday. The provincial death toll is now 9,412.
There are currently 108 people being treated for COVID-19 at Ontario hospitals. According to Health Minister Christine Elliott, 79 are still testing positive. Of those, 32 were unvaccinated, 37 had one dose, and 6 were fully vaccinated.
To date, the province has administered 19,998,744 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, with 9,418,632 people having received both shots required to be fully inoculated.
