On Tuesday, the national weather agency issued the heat alert for London, Middlesex County, Elgin County, and Oxford County after humidex readings reached upwards of 40 C.
Late Thursday evening, the weather agency called off the alert.
Alan Smith will begin his new role with the municipality on July 20.
