Warner wins gold in record fashion

With a gold medal in Tokyo, Damian Warner has cemented his position as one of the best decathletes of all time.

The Londoner won gold in the decathlon at the Tokyo Olympics on Thursday morning, finishing with an Olympic record 9,018 points. It's just the fourth time a decathlete has eclipsed 9,000 points.

Warner came into the games having won the bronze medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016, and having worked his way to becoming the top ranked decathlete in the world. His performance in Tokyo included an Olympic record setting time of 13.46 seconds in the 110-metre hurdles and a personal best of 4.90 metres in the pole vault. His 10.12 second time in the 100 metre sprint and his 8.24 metres long jump were also Olympic decathlon records.

Kevin Mayer of France won the silver medal, while Ashley Moroney of Australia won bronze.
