A London man faces several charges after allegedly beating a woman with his fists and a baseball bat.
Police were called around 6 p.m. Tuesday after a man forced his way into a home in the downtown area. He is alleged to have made threats toward a woman he knew, punched her, and assaulted her with a baseball bat.
He then took off in a vehicle.
"The suspect was located at a residence on Beattie Avenue where he proceeded to climb to the roof of the home while in possession of a knife. Officers attempted to negotiate with the male for many hours," police said. "The suspect fell from the roof and was subsequently arrested by officers at approximately 11:15 p.m. He was transported to hospital with minor injuries."
According to police, the victim's injuries were minor.
A 50-year-old man, whose name is not being released to protect the identity of the victim, is charged with break and enter to commit assault, criminal harassment, harrassing telecommunication, uttering threats of death or bodily harm, assault with a weapon, assault by suffocation, assault, two counts of failing to comply with a release order, and six counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.
