MLHU: No appointment needed for first vaccine dose

The Middlesex-London Health Unit is making it easier than ever to get your first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Starting on Wednesday, you will no longer need an appointment if you're getting your first dose of the vaccine at any of the health unit's four mass vaccination clinics.

“If you have not yet had your first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, you can now walk into any area clinic, any time before 5 p.m. and get your shot,” says Dr. Chris Mackie, medical officer of health at the Middlesex-London Health Unit. “Getting vaccinated is more important than ever. The common link we’re seeing among those who are becoming ill and sadly dying from COVID-19 is that they are not vaccinated.”

A full list of clinic locations can be found here.

Mackie has said we're into a fourth wave of the pandemic - that is essentially only impacting those who have not yet gotten the vaccine.

"The rate of COVID in people who are not vaccinated, which is a small subset of our population, is actually quite high,” he said at a virtual news conference on Monday.

There are also several pop-up clinic options for those looking to get a vaccination. A list is available here.

The health unit said a man in his 50s and a woman in her 90s both died due to COVID-19 this week.

The last death linked to the virus locally before this week was recorded on June 26, and the region's death toll now sits at 228.

Eight new COVID-19 cases were logged on Tuesday in the community. That matches the number of new infections that were reported on Monday. Daily case counts in the area have now been in the single-digits for 11 straight days.
