A heart alert in effect over the past several days has finally been lifted.
Environment Canada issued a heat alert for most of southwestern Ontario earlier this week. By late Tuesday evening, the alert was called off.
A cold front which brought severe thunderstorms through parts of the region caused scorching temperatures to dissipate some. Londoners can expect some relief from the heat towards the end of the week.
Slightly less hot and humid conditions are expected for Wednesday with a daytime high of 29 C feeling more like 37 C with the humidex value.
More comfortable conditions are expected to move in Wednesday evening and through the weekend when temperatures cool down into the low twenties.
The health unit issues heat alerts when Environment Canada forecasts daytime highs of 31 C or higher for one day or more and when humidex values reach 40 C or higher for at least 24 hours.
A two-day heat alert was originally issued on Sunday. As temperatures in the London-area hit highs between 31 and 33 C feeling more like 40 C with the humidity on both Monday and Tuesday the health unit extended the alert to three days.
