UPDATE: Hot temperatures prompt heat advisories

Heat advisories have been issued for the London region with temperatures expected to be above the 30 C mark on Sunday and Monday.

On Sunday, the Middlesex-London Health Unit issued a heat alert and Environment Canada issued a heat warning for London, Middlesex County, Elgin County and Oxford County.

A cool down is expected overnight on Sunday but the alert will remain in effect until Tuesday, July 6.

"If you are planning to spend time outside in these temperatures, it is important to plan ahead and take necessary precautions to protect against the heat," said Randy Walker, a public health inspector with the Middlesex-London Health Unit.

Heat alerts are issued when forecasts call for temperatures of 31 C or higher and lows of at least 20 C for two consecutive days.

The health unit recommends staying hydrated, wearing hats and avoiding intense physical activity if you're planning on being outside.

A full list of recommendations can be found on the health unit's website.
