London man charged after alleged 'racially motivated' incident

Charges have been laid against a 36-year-old man after a vehicle was driven multiple times over a neighbour's lawn in what police are calling a 'racially motivated' incident in south London.

London police were called to the area of Ridout Street South and Windsor Avenue on Sunday after a person saw a man drive a vehicle onto the lawn numerous times before parking in the driveway of a nearby home. Concerned for the driver, witnesses walked over to the home where they are alleged to have spotted racially motivated signs posted in the window.

When police officers arrived to speak with the man inside the home he uttered multiple racial threats directed at his neighbour, police said. The man is also alleged to have resisted arrest.

Giovanni Geraldino Caballaero, 36, of London is charged with nearly six offences including uttering threats to cause death, dangerous operation of a vehicle, criminal harassment by threatening conduct, and resisting arrest.

He was scheduled to appear in court in relation to the charges on Tuesday.
