6 new COVID-19 infections logged as active cases steadily decline

With another single-digit increase in the number of COVID-19 infections, active cases in the London-Middlesex region have dropped to 80.

The Middlesex-London Health Unit reported six new cases of the virus on Saturday, bringing the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 12,496. the health unit recorded three cases on Friday and 13 were reported on Thursday.

A total of 223 people have died in the region due to complications involving COVID-19.

As of Friday, the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) had a total of 15 COVID-19 inpatients. Of those, nine are listed in intensive care.

Early this week it was reported that 72 per cent of all adults in London-Middlesex have received their first COVID-19 vaccination and 8.9 per cent have received both doses.

Ontario logged an additional 355 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, bringing the total number of cases to 542,000 since the start of the pandemic.  An additional 13 COVID-related deaths were reported, bringing the provincial death toll to 9,007.
