Grocery store worker first to receive COVID-19 vaccine at MLHU's new clinic

Ryan Gosso used to play hockey at Earl Nichols Arena.

On Friday, at that same area, he got the vaccine that so many have been waiting for.

Gosso, a 25-year-old grocery store worker, was the first to receive the COVID-19 vaccination at the Middlesex-London Health Unit's newly opened clinic.

"It was easy, didn't feel anything.," Gosso said moments after getting his shot from nurse Melissa Thompson. "As soon as it's done, we can go to bars and concerts. Get things back to normal."

The clinic was unveiled at a news conference on Friday, just before Gosso received his vaccination.

The Health Unit says that roughly 1,500 people each day will be vaccinated at Earl Nichols, and eventually that number will ramp up to as high as 2,000.

This clinic will be their most efficient, the health unit claims. Officials are also pleased about the geographic location.

"This is a site that you can walk to, that you can bike to. It's a site that (people in the neighbourhood are) familiar with," said area ward councillor Elizabeth Peloza at the clinic's opening. "Please, come out, get vaccinated."

The Health Unit has four mass vaccination clinics. The other three are at the North London Optimist Community Centre, the Western Fair Agriplex and in Mount Brydges at the Caradoc Community Centre.

Over half of adults in Middlesex-London have received their first dose, according to the Health Unit. You can book an appointment on the health unit's website.
