Suspicious fire destroys southwest London barn

A fire that levelled a large barn in southwest London Tuesday afternoon has been deemed suspicious.

The blaze broke out around 1 p.m. at the abandoned farm on Colonel Talbot Road at Pack Road. Heavy smoke and flames could be seen from various areas across the city, including downtown.

The barn collapsed as firefighters worked to douse the flames. Several hours were also spent digging through the rubble to put out additional hot spots.

Drivers were asked to temporarily avoid the area while firefighters worked.

No injuries were reported and damage has been estimated at $100,000.

While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, it has been determined to have been suspicious in nature, London police said on Wednesday.

The police street crime unit and a fire inspector continue to probe the blaze. They are asking anyone with information about this incident to call police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
