Southwest Public Health is asking you to keep an eye on your phone if you need a COVID-19 vaccination.
The public health body in Oxford and Elgin counties says they're starting a "Same Day Vaccination List", aimed as making sure no doses of the vaccine are wasted.
If you're able to get to a vaccination site in 30 minutes or less, you can put yourself on the list and get a call if somebody misses their scheduled appointment. The list is only available for those needing their first dose of the vaccine.
“We know this vaccine is a precious resource and we aim to never waste a dose. Occasionally we have appointment cancellations or no-shows. Our goal is to get the resulting doses to residents who are eagerly waiting,” Jaime Fletcher, Program Manager for the organization’s COVID-19 Vaccination Task Force said in a news release.
“The Same Day Vaccination List allows individuals to self identify if they can present at a clinic within 30 minutes of a phone call from a member of our team.”
Only those currently eligible for the provincial vaccination criteria can get the shot, and the list will refresh each week - meaning you'll have to sign up every week until you get your shot.
“There are no guarantees, but based on what we have seen to-date, we do anticipate that every day we’ll call people from the list to come in for a shot. This may result in getting a vaccine weeks ahead of a previously scheduled appointment,” added Fletcher.
