A fire that caused extensive damage to a home near Western University has been deemed suspicious.
Firefighters were called to 260 Trott Dr. west of Platt's Lane around 2:15 a.m. on Thursday after fire broke out in the basement of the bungalow.
When fire crews arrived on scene thick smoke could be seen coming from the home. They were able to quickly extinguish the fire and ventilate the smoke.
No one was inside the home at the time and there were no injuries reported.
Damage is estimated at $500,000. That is $50,000 more than originally thought.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but has been determined to be "suspicious in nature," according to London police. Fire prevention investigators and police are expected to remain on scene throughout the day on Thursday. The Ontario Fire Marshal is also sending two investigators to the house.
