Motorcyclist with homemade plates hits unmarked police cruiser

London police have laid several charges against a motorcyclist who allegedly hit an unmarked cruiser Tuesday afternoon.

At around 2 p.m., a police officer operating an unmarked car in the area of Clarke Road near Wavell Street says he watched a motorcycle passing other cars in the curb lane on Clarke Road.

The motorcyclist tried to pass the unmarked cruiser on the left side when he hit the front driver's side fender.

When the officer approached the driver, he noticed the licence plate was bent in a way that made the numbers unreadable. A second officer attended the collision, and when both officers began to question the driver, he attempted to flee on the motorcycle.

Police say one of the officers was able to prevent the suspect from leaving, and he was subsequently arrested.

No one was injured during the incident.

A 20-year-old London man is charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident, driving without insurance, driving without a licence, attempting to pass when a roadway is not clear, failing to apply for a vehicle permit and using a defaced plate.

The accused will appear in court on July 21 to respond to the charges.
