A London man is facing nearly half a dozen charges after an Aylmer police officer was assaulted with a bicycle.
The incident happened early last Wednesday after Aylmer police spotted two suspicious men near an SUV in the parking lot of a Talbot Street West coffee shop. The vehicle had previously been reported stolen, police said.
The men noticed the officers watching them and ran from the area.
One of the men is alleged to have thrown a bicycle at one of the officers who was closing in on him and then kept on running. A 34-year-old London man was arrested shortly after.
He has been charged with assaulting a police officer, assault with intent to resist arrest, possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and escaping lawful custody.
A 40-year-old man was also arrested. During a search of the man, officers found keys and documents belonging to the stolen vehicle, police said. That man is charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, and failing to comply with a probation order.
