Man charged after armed robbery at east-end bank

A London man is charged with armed robbery and assault with a weapon following an argument at an east-end bank.

City police say around 12:15 p.m. Sunday, a man approached another man who was leaving a bank at Oxford Street and Highbury Avenue and asked him to cash a cheque for him. The man obliged and allowed the suspect to perform the transaction at the automated teller.

Police say the suspect withdrew a larger sum of money from the man’s account than the amount written on the cheque, leading to an argument.

After the man threatened to call police, he was assaulted and suffered minor injuries.

Police responded to the area and arrested a suspect on Connaught Avenue. The stolen money and a knife were also located.

A 32-year-old man has a court date set for June 6.
