More than a month after a woman was hit and killed by a pickup truck in downtown London, charges have been laid against a Guelph man.
Tena Marie Brunelle, 63, of London was walking on the sidewalk along Clarence Street north of York Street around 10:30 a.m. on January 8 when she was struck. The truck was pulling out of a parking garage at Citi Plaza at the time of the collision.
Brunelle was rushed to hospital where she later died from her injuries.
Following an investigation by the police traffic management unit, charges were laid Tuesday against Dylan Lyons, 25, of Guelph. He is charged with careless driving causing death and is scheduled to appear in court on May 3.
Brunelle was the third pedestrian to be killed in London in a six-week period. Joseph Robert Gordon Campbell, 58, was hit at Horton and Wellington streets on November 30. He died in hospital ten days later. A second pedestrian, whose name was not released, was hit and killed hours after Campbell on Hamilton Road near Rectory Street.
