Londoners rally behind father of three seriously hurt in toboggan accident

Financial donations are pouring in for a London father of three who was seriously hurt while tobogganing at Byron Somerset hills over the weekend.

Pete Mogan, 44, was at the popular winter spot Saturday for a day of outdoor fun with his wife and three children when his sled hit a bump as it descended down the steep hill and became airborne. He was rushed to hospital where he was diagnosed with a fractured skull, a brain bleed, and trauma to his internal organs.

A GoFundMe campaign, created by family friend Stacey Evoy, identifies Mogan and his wife Jess as the owners of Rep Room Gym in Hyde Park. It describes the couple as "pillars of the community," always willing to support charitable causes such as Tough Mudder, Braz for the Cause, and Christmas toy drives.

"What has already been a tough time with the pandemic and business closures is just exasperated by [Saturday's] events," the fundraising page reads. "Please help in any way you can so that Jess can focus on Pete and his long road to recovery and not have to worry about financial pressure and hardship. There will be unforeseen medical bills, parking, physio treatments, and just day to day costs."

In just 12 hours, the GoFundMe raised nearly $15,000 and has been shared on social media hundreds of times.

The Byron Somerset hills located behind the public school at 175 Whisperwood Ave. are a tobogganing hotspot in London. However, the hill Mogan was on at the time of his accident has been known to catch tobogganers off guard with its ramp, leading to injury.
